A Top-Down View of Nexton

Nexton is booming.

The award-winning master planned community just outside of Charleston is in the middle of a decade-long buildout. From the ground you can see it. And from a drone, you can get a different view of things. We have a new MUSC hospital and cancer center under construction now, and the nearby Playfield Park is set to open soon. Downtown Nexton is taking shape, and infrastructure work is proceeding on three parcels near I-26.

About Me

My name is Chris Van Veen and I moved to Nexton from New Hampshire in early 2022. My wife and I live in the Del Webb community, which is a way of saying I’m older than 55 without actually saying it.

My career was spent doing marketing and marketing communications work for large and small high-tech companies in the Boston and southern New Hampshire areas. One of those companies was a maker of hyper spectral imaging sensors, which are essentially cameras that can see things on the ground at spectral ranges far beyond human vision. Drones are commonly used to carry these sensors for crop inspection, mining, and chemical analysis.

What I Can Do For You

If you’re a realtor or a home inspector, I can help by providing you with videos and still images at very high resolution. If you’re building a commercial or retail presence in Nexton and would like incremental views of progress, I’m able to assist. And if you simply want a picture of your new home, I can do that, too!

About my Drone

I have a RUKO F11GIM2, which is a very nice and compact quadcopter. It has remote ID, which is a FAA requirement under Part 107 flying. You can click here to learn more about this drone.

About Part 107

I passed my Part 107 exam on March 16, 2026 with a score of 95%. This FAA test now distinguishes me from all the other ‘recreational’ drone fliers out there. It means I can do things on a commercial basis that I otherwise couldn’t. In short, having Part 107 certification allows me to fly over people, over moving vehicles, and to fly at night. You can learn more about what the FAA has to say here.
